Challenge: Advocate for systems change

Fewer than half of eligible New Zealanders voted in the last local elections.

This is one of the biggest 5 high-impact actions for climate change you can take and has a huge impact!

This means that a small group can disproportionately influence local council budgets, climate plans and actions.

So far, citizen-led campaigns have pushed 16 councils (covering ~75% of NZ’s population) to declare climate emergencies.

This action shows the great strength that writing to your MP (or running for local office) can contribute towards significant policy change.

It’s important that the people in power (who technically work for you!) hear from you, and how you want public money to be invested.
